The return to our first restaurant is also a return to our roots and childhood, the décor and food evoking the joys of riding bicycles through the countryside and the delicious family meals we enjoyed at home.

The Schooner is an outdoor cocktail lounge offering a full bar, luncheon menu and Lobster House specialty appetizers during the evening. A destination in itself, the Schooner has an unrivaled waterfront ambiance and is the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail before dinner while watching yachts pass by. Redefining upscale dining on the Cape May Peninsula, Provence seduces diners with what can only be described as a beautifully choreographed synergy of food, flavors and techniques, plated with undeniable flair and whimsey. The French refer to such a gastronomical experience as “plaisir des lèvres et de l’âme” or “pleasure of the soul through one’s lips”… classic, french, modern and quite simply euphoric. Set in a stunningly renovated 1854 historic mansion reminiscent of a French country chateau, diners are taken on a magical journey that indulges all one’s senses.
Our adventure in the restaurant business began in 1974 when we opened our first restaurant, La Boheme, in the location where La Bicyclette is today. We served only one prix fixe dish per night, posting a calendar of our monthly menu in the window. The food was simple and fresh, reflecting the family meals we grew up with as children in the countryside of Belgium. One of the most unique features of The Lobster House is the 130 foot-long authentic Grand Banks sailing vessel, the Schooner American which is moored dockside.
We are currently open for our whimsical weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Beginning April 12th, 2024, Provence will be serving modern, French cuisine every Friday through Sunday, featuring our NEW more relaxed Bistronomy menu. A Cape May Court House institution, located in the absolute center of Cape May County. We are committed to providing excellent food and service in a warm friendly atmosphere.

Great food, Great times and great crab cakes are waiting for you....experience Court House Casual. Our culinary experts create flavorful cuisine, locally sourced from the Jersey Shore’s waters and local farms creating new twists on classic shore favorites. To our surprise and delight, there was a line out the door every night. Although we had never intended to become restaurateurs, we discovered a true joy in sharing our culture where great food and wine went hand-in-hand with good conversation and friends. In 1978, we sold La Boheme to one of our top waiters and opened Casanova Restaurant.

Our menu is updated weekly, allowing us to make use of the freshest locally sourced ingredients. The kitchen is tiny, with all food prepared on a six burner stove and in our wood-fired oven.
